CEPANI’S 40th anniversary – November 25th, 2009 (1969-2009) (please find the booklet here enclosed) This year, CEPANI is celebrating its’ 40 years of existence. On this occasion a reception was held on November 25th, 2009 at the Château St-Anne in Brussels. The crowd present showed the great interest one has for alternative dispute resolution methods. The unique place CEPANI holds in our country was underlined in the welcoming speech of the president of CEPANI, Professor Guy Keutgen. He also seized the opportunity to express three wishes for the future to come. First of all, CEPANI must contribute towards demystifying alternative dispute resolution methods by removing the veil too often drawn upon arbitration and mediation. Next, CEPANI must always be aware and pay careful attention to the practice of arbitration and mediation in order to be able to seize a difficulty and adapt its’ rules accordingly. Last but not least, Belgium must position itself as a favorable place for arbitration international wise. During the reception, the three-year CEPANI scientific prize was awarded to Mr. Kristof Cox, Senior Researcher at the Institute for International Trade Law KULeuven, Legal consultant at Deloitte, for his work on « Arbitration awards and third parties ». On this occasion, the president of the jury, Professor Johan Erauw, vice-president of CEPANI explained the reasons behind the jury’s choice. To read his speech, click here.
